So recently, TLC came out with a one hour special called the Virgin Diaries. The premise of the special was that some couples, even nowadays, have decided to wait until marriage before having sex.
My first thought, when hearing about the show, was "Oh, that's sweet I guess..." However, after watching a few clips from the special as well as hearing and reading about it, I honestly wonder what the point of the special was. Initially, I thought that the show was made to support staying "pure" until marriage. On the other hand, the couples they used on the show were so awkward that it was almost as if TLC was making fun of their choice to wait. Of course, TLC would never actually say that, but in a way that's sort of what it seems like.
Personally, I think that choosing to stay celibate until marriage is something each individual has to make on their own and there should be no judgement either way. Boys and girls seem to deal with similar pressures relating sex and are judged either way. If they choose not to have sex until marriage they're "nuns" while if they choose to go all out and enjoy sex now they're "whores". In other words, I think everyone should back off of the sex topic. It's really not anyone else's business.
At this point, The Virgin Diaries was supposed to be a one time thing. However, even though it's getting a lot of mixed reviews from various people, it's still getting a LOT of reviews. As a result, according to some rumors TLC might be coming back with it. Well, I guess we'll just have to see how it goes...
The view on relationships have changed, but I feel that it will always remain a sensitive topic because it is so controversial to some.
ReplyDeleteI saw a video clip, it was gross. The girl was like eating the guy's face.
But that's besides the point, I feel like this show is more making fun of abstinence than anything else. Which being TLC does not surprise me.
Anywhoo, I think that it is a person's personal choice what they do, and people should respect that without being too judgmental.
I really don't like TLC's decision to make The Virgin Diaries such a biased and negative show. I think that if they showed both sides of celibacy, it would be a better show, but hey, who these days is worried about offending people? I personally think that this show is expolitive...it's not right to make fun of people for their personal beliefs or life choices, even if it is only implied and inferred by the viewer.
ReplyDeleteIt was totally making fun of those who chose to be celibate! So sad that the world has come to actually finding humor in those who choose to respect themselves and have dignity to such a high degree.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand I see nothing wrong with sex before marriage BUT I do see a problem with those who have sex for others instead of themselves.
It is a life choice that should not be affected my anyone or anything.
I agree! It's no one else's business but your own.
